Baseball Update
A review of confernece play upto April 25 from Coach Nierman.
Varsity Baseball Bulletin 4/25/10 Well, we are a half way through the conference schedule and the Lincoln Park Lions are hitting their stride. They are 6-2 as of April 25th and are coming together tremendously as a ball club. The Lions are getting it done at the plate hitting .340 with 65 runs as a club. Their offensive prowess has combined with consistent pitching by Aldo Molina, Mike Cione, and Maurico Castro to forge a cohesive unit that is turning heads in the Jackie Robinson Central Conference. Seniors Vernon Weaver, Norris Andruis, and Gabe Popuch are setting an aggressive tone that complements the talents and skills of junior starters: Steve Petritis, Jerome Sader, Nick Timlin, Kevin Manetti, Maurico Castro and Mike Cione. Whether it is Kevin Manetti coming up big in the outfield, or Mike Cione overpowering batters on the bump, this club is poised for success for the duration of the season. Sophomore Stephan Spencer is a “Jack of all Trades” getting it done in multiple defensive positions. Furthermore, he is a major contributor to the success of the bottom of our order, which has been baffling defenses for the past few weeks. Finally, freshman Rafael Valentine has hyper-developed into a serious ball player at the varsity level. We are confident that this team’s competitive surge will carry into these next few weeks of baseball as we square off against: Roosevelt, Shurz, Marshall, Foreman, Amunson, and Prosser to reign in another Conference Title. Lion Pride! Varsity Conference Record LP v Roosevelt 8-4 W LP v Shurz 10-3 L LP v Marshall 15-8 L LP v Steinmetz 12-1 W LP v Foreman 8-3 W LP v Steinmetz 6-4 W LP v Prosser 14-1 W LP v. Amunson 13-0 W On the Freshman Farm The freshman squad consisting of 14 bright, young ball players are joining together to show the league who exactly is the future of baseball triumphs in the conference for years to come. They are 6-1 in league play and are proving to be a fundamental group of ball players who play the game the right way. Lead by the strong pitching performances of: Ben Vaughan, Robert Webber, and Ian Atkins these talented athletes are setting the tone and giving their squad chances to win some big games. Furthermore, Joe Horvath, Nick Capello, Jon Rivadeneyra, Nick Parrilli, and Javier High are pestering pitchers with their “stick and drive” approach to the plate. If you are looking to see some exciting baseball and a great group of young players, please reference our posted schedule to learn about when the freshman take the field next. |
