Varsity Baseball Bulletin
4/25/10
Well, we are a half way through the conference schedule and the Lincoln Park Lions are hitting their stride. They are 6-2 as of April 25th and are coming together tremendously as a ball club. The Lions are getting it done at the plate hitting .340 with 65 runs as a club. Their offensive prowess has combined with consistent pitching by Aldo Molina, Mike Cione, and Maurico Castro to forge a cohesive unit that is turning heads in the Jackie Robinson Central Conference. Seniors Vernon Weaver, Norris Andruis, and Gabe Popuch are setting an aggressive tone that complements the talents and skills of junior starters: Steve Petritis, Jerome Sader, Nick Timlin, Kevin Manetti, Maurico Castro and Mike Cione. Whether it is Kevin Manetti coming up big in the outfield, or Mike Cione overpowering batters on the bump, this club is poised for success for the duration of the season. Sophomore Stephan Spencer is a “Jack of all Trades” getting it done in multiple defensive positions. Furthermore, he is a major contributor to the success of the bottom of our order, which has been baffling defenses for the past few weeks. Finally, freshman Rafael Valentine has hyper-developed into a serious ball player at the varsity level. We are confident that this team’s competitive surge will carry into these next few weeks of baseball as we square off against: Roosevelt, Shurz, Marshall, Foreman, Amunson, and Prosser to reign in another Conference Title. Lion Pride!

On the Freshman Farm
The freshman squad consisting of 14 bright, young ball players are joining together to show the league who exactly is the future of baseball triumphs in the conference for years to come. They are 6-1 in league play and are proving to be a fundamental group of ball players who play the game the right way. Lead by the strong pitching performances of: Ben Vaughan, Robert Webber, and Ian Atkins these talented athletes are setting the tone and giving their squad chances to win some big games. Furthermore, Joe Horvath, Nick Capello, Jon Rivadeneyra, Nick Parrilli, and Javier High are pestering pitchers with their “stick and drive” approach to the plate. If you are looking to see some exciting baseball and a great group of young players, please reference our posted schedule to learn about when the freshman take the field next.

Non-Conference Baseball Bulletin
The 2010 Season is underway and the LP Lions are playing competitive baseball against top ranked teams in the city. The Lions are playing our kind of hardball led by crafty pitching and timely hitting. We are coming together as a team and looking to destroy the competition during conference play which begins April 5.
Our pitching core consisting of players: Castro, Weaver, Timlin, Petritis, Popuch, and Sanchez are adroit at keeping the hitters guessing and pitching to outs. The success of our pitching staff is due largely in part by our Junior-year backstop, Steve Petritis. Furthermore, the Lions are very strong up the middle due to the defensive prowess of middle infielders: Sader and Timlin. Kevin Manetti-flanked by Stephan Spencer and a slew of capable right fielders- are going after baseballs with gusto and determination. Finally, our corner infielders are getting it done by knocking the ball down and being smart.
The Lions show great discipline at the plate and are certainly hitting the ball hard and legging out singles, doubles, and triples. Whether it is a Cione bomb or an Andruis shot, the Lions are making our opponents work for every out. Nick Timlin, Vernon Weaver, and Jerome Sader are reeking havoc on the base paths by catching good reads and keeping the defense on their toes.
Overall, the LP Coaching Staff is pleased with how we are developing as a team and are confident that these past two weeks have prepared the program for success in conference play. Please reference our schedule and continue to check in throughout the season.
Lion Pride!
