Welcome to my page

Welcome, Lincoln Park Lions! My name is Kathryn Fahey, and I am a Language Acquisition teacher here at LPHS. If you need to reach me, please click on the email link underneath my picture, or email [email protected].
¡Hola, mi gente! My name is Kathryn Fahey and I have been teaching in Chicago since 2009 and at Lincoln Park since 2020. I love the diversity of our student body and how students are open to learning Spanish by making mistakes along the way. I love meeting students where they are and helping them make gains throughout the year. I use Google Classroom to post announcements and resources used in class.

I graduated with a B.A. in Spanish and Education from the University of Illiniois at Chicago and lived in Madrid, Spain during my undergrad. After graduation, I moved to Honduras and served in the Peace Corps as a Youth Development Volunteer for 2 years where I taught math, English and worked at the local health center. In 2019, I received my MAT in Teaching of Spanish from the Universidad de Guanajuato (Guanajuato, Mexico - one of the most charming cities in Mexico!) where I completed an action research project that focused on supporting receptive heritage bilinguals in the introductory level classroom. I am also a National Board Certified Teacher in World Languages Other than English and am currently finishing up my coursework to receive an English as a Second Language certification.

I enjoy traveling and have had the great fortune of being able to travel almost every summer - I love being able to sharpen my Spanish skills and deepen my cultural experiences through travel. My current travel goal is to visit every country in Spanish-speaking Latin America — I have 2 countries to go! (Paraguay & Bolivia)

I am a Chicago native and live in my childhood home with my Australian Shepherd/Beagle mix, Shasta.
